Triumph has launched the Street Scrambler, based on the Street Twin at Rs 8.10 lakhs (ex-showroom, pan India). The bike can be used to ride in the city but it also has features that can help it off-road. The bike directly competes with the Ducati Urban Enduro, which did not have any real rival, until now. We look at how the war of the Scramblers goes down.
Engine
The Street Scrambler’s power comes from a 900cc parallel-twin engine. This engine produces 54bhp at 6000rpm and peak torque of 80Nm at 2850rpm and is mated to a five-speed transmission. Whereas, Scrambler Urban Enduro is powered by a 803cc Desmodromic air-cooled unit which delivers 74bhp at 8250rpm and 68Nm of torque at 5750rpm, and is mated to a six-speed transmission.
Although the Street Scrambler has a less powerful engine as compared to the Ducati, it makes up for it with the surplus torque. Triumph has tuned this engine to deliver more torque at low and mid-range, particularly to help it during off-roading.
Features
The Street Scrambler is aimed at both city riding and off-roading. It gets a raised exhaust and contoured seat which is interchangeable. The bike also gets an aluminium rack at the rear and removable pillion foot pegs, while the instrument cluster is borrowed from the Bonneville range. Suspension duties are performed by 41mm forks at the front and twin shocks at the rear, both KYB units. The Street Scrambler also sports technology like ride-by-wire, and switchable traction control and ABS.
The Ducati Urban Enduro on the other hand, has fancy detailing like aluminium panels on the fuel tank, LED DRLs, LCD instrument console and aluminium heat covers. These give the Scrambler Urban Enduro a classy look. The bike also gets a high front-mudguard, fork protectors, headlamp grill, spoke wheels lend it a rugged character. The bike gets a Kayaba suspension setup at both ends and Brembo brakes.
Both motorcycles feature skid plates to protect the engine during jumps and get ABS as standard. The Street Scrambler is equipped with 19-inch wheels wrapped in Metzeler Tourance tyres for on and off-road use. Meanwhile, the Ducati uses spoke wheels that get Pirelli dual sport tyres.
Pricing
The Street Scrambler is priced at Rs 8.10 lakhs while the Ducati Urban Enduro is a bit more expensive at Rs 8.18 lakhs. Both prices are ex-showroom, pan India.
