Triumph aims to further strengthen its foothold in the Indian market with the launch of the new Street Triple 765. However, the manufacturer faces competition from two more popular products in the country namely – the Kawasaki Z900 and Ducati Monster 821. How does it match up to them?
The newly launched Triumph Street Triple 765 is powered by a 765cc, inline three-cylinder engine that generates 111bhp of power at 11,250rpm and 73Nm of torque at 9,100rpm. The Kawasaki Z900 is powered by a 948cc inline 4 cylinder engine that produces 123bhp of power at 9,500rpm and 99Nm of torque at 7,700rpm. Ducati Monster 821 is powered by an 821cc, L-twin engine that generates 110bhp of power at 9,250rpm and 89Nm of torque at 7,750rpm. There’s a wealth of choice if you’re an engine enthusiast – the Monster’s engine will offer hammer-blow torque at any revs, the Z900 will offer a more traditional screamer with power high in the rev range, and the Triumph triple will try and pick the good characteristics from each of those two.
The Triumph Street Triple 765 offers more electronics in form of new on-board computer, two riding modes, ABS, traction control, a quickshifter, and adjustable levers. The Street Triple 765 is also the most affordable of the lot, which is priced at Rs 8.5 lakh. The 2017 Z900 which was launched earlier this year, has been introduced at a price of Rs 9.0 lakh. For that hike in price as compared to the Street Triple 765, the Z900 offers a 4-cylinder engine, slipper clutch, a new trellis frame and touring accessories - panniers, a tank bag and a top box. The Ducati Monster 821 is the priciest of the lot at Rs 9.78 lakh. The bike justifies its hike in price over the other two as it gets modern electronic aids in form of eight-level traction control, three-level ABS and three-level ride-by-wire technology.
Street bikes have always appealed to the younger lot as well as those who are young at heart. The Triumph Street Triple 765 is focused at buyers who are looking out for performance and daily commuting needs. Available only in S trim for now, the bike gets Triumph’s signature twin headlamp design. The new Street Triple S is available in shades of red and black. Kawasaki Z900 being the most aggressive of the lot, its design reflects that aggressive behavior in form of sculpted fuel tank that flows onto the sharp fairing. Like the traditional Ducatis, the Monster 821 features minimal bodywork and exposed frame that accentuates its naked character.
Although all the three bikes have been priced differently, they have been strong competitors in the performance street bike segment. Buyers who have been pretty much confused with what to pick, we can tell you that the Street Triple 765 is not a bad choice for those who consider factors like performance figures, decent pricing and the electronics. The Ducati Monster 821 is purely for those who swear by its naked styling and impressive electronics. As for buyers who like their street bike a little laid-back and touring-friendly, you have the Kawasaki Z900.
