Globally, Triumph Street Triple has been a popular name in the middleweight sports bike segment. First launched way back in 2007, Triumph has reportedly sold over 50,000 units of the Street Triple globally and last received a mild cosmetic and mechanical upgrade in 2013. This time around, the new 2017 Street Triple 765 will get a host of fresh upgrades that will help the brand further strengthen its foothold in the market.
The upcoming 2017 Street Triple 765 was unveiled in the UK earlier this year which will get the bike in thee variants - S, R and the RS. However, in India we will only see the S variant being launched, while sometime later we might also get the RS variant in the country. As for the R trim, it is not expected to be launched anytime soon in India. The 2017 Street Triple 765 will be powered by a bigger 765cc, inline three-cylinder engine that comes mated to a six-speed transmission. The top of the line RS trim generates 121bhp at 11,750rpm and 77Nm of torque at 10,800rpm, but this is not due for an immediate launch. In addition to features from the S variant, the RS trim will additionally get a slip and assist slipper clutch and a quickshifter.
The upcoming Street Triple S variant will generate 111bhp of power at 11,250rpm and 73Nm of torque at 9,100rpm. As for what’s new, the new model offers an additional 10mm of seat height as against the current bike which stands 810mm. The front gets a Showa 41mm inverted separate function forks, whereas the rear is suspended by a Showa monoshock with a piggyback reservoir. The new bike also claims to be lighter by 2kgs, thereby offering that quicker power output as compared to its predecessor. As for brakes, the motorcycle gets twin 310mm discs with twin-piston Nissin calipers for the front, while the rear gets a single 220mm disc with a single piston Brembo calliper.
Post launch, the Triumph Street Triple 765 will emerge as a strong competitor against the likes of DSK Benelli TNT899, Kawasaki Z900, Ducati Monster 821 and the Yamaha MT-09. Although, the bike is not the fastest of the lot, the bike makers claim that it offers a fine balance between everyday usability and decent performance. Price for the motorcycle will be announced in a week’s time, however, we believe that the Street Triple 765 S might cost an additional ₹ 40,000 – ₹ 60,000 over the current model, thereby likely to be priced around ₹ 8.5 lakh. Whereas, the RS variant which might be introduced at a later date, is likely to be priced between ₹ 10 lakh – ₹ 11 lakh.
