Triumph Street Triple RS: What else can you buy

With the Triumph Street Triple RS launched at Rs 10.55 lakhs (ex-showroom, India), we look at what else you could buy, apart from the bike’s direct rivals, if you are on a similar budget.

Let’s first look at the streetfighter segment. This list features the Street Triple RS’s rivals elder siblings. Triumph offers the Speed Triple, at Rs 11.30 lakhs. The bike uses a 1050cc in-line three engine which produces 133bhp and 111Nm of torque. Ducati offers the Monster 821 and Monster 821 Dark which are elder siblings of the Monster 797. The 821 Dark is the blacked out version of the 821 and uses 821cc Testastretta L-Twin engine that produces 112bhp and peak torque of 89Nm. The bikes are priced at Rs 9.72 lakhs and 10.36 lakhs respectively.

Also on offer is the Ducati Hypermotard 939, a supermoto that uses a 937cc Testastretta engine that delivers 112bhp and 98Nm of torque through a six-speed transmission. It is priced at Rs 10.93 lakhs. You could also opt for the Yamaha MT-09 priced at Rs 9.91 lakhs. It uses an 850cc inline three cylinder engine that produces 115bhp at 10,000rpm and peak torque of 87.5Nm.

If the streetfighters are too aggressive, you could consider cruisers like the Harley-Davidson Forty Eight, Roadster and 1200 Custom.  The bikes share the same 1202cc V-twin engine, although with slightly different power figures. The Forty Eight and Roadster produce 60bhp and 90Nm of torque whereas the 1200 Custom produces a higher 67bhp and 90Nm of torque. The Forty Eight is priced at Rs 10.07 lakhs, the Roadster gets a price tag of Rs 10.28 lakhs and the 1200 Custom features a Rs 9.85 lakh price tag.

Triumph also offers two modern classics in the form of the Bonneville Bobber and Thruxton R. The Bonneville Bobber and Thruxton R’s styling is reminiscent of the early motorcycle racing days. The Bobber uses a 1200cc twin-cylinder engine that produces 76bhpand 106Nm of torque. The Thruxton R sports a 1200cc twin-cylinder engine that puts out 96bhp and 112Nm of torque. The bikes are priced at Rs 9.62 lakhs and Rs 11.27 lakhs respectively.

The second Japanese in the room is the Kawasaki Ninja 1000. An aggressively priced tourer, it uses a 1043cc in-line four cylinder engine which generates 140bhp at 9,600 rpm and 111Nm of torque at 8,800 rpm. It is priced at Rs 9.98 lakhs. Similar to the Kawasaki’s segment is another bike from Triumph. The Tiger 800 XR is the entry-level model in the company’s adventure touring range. It uses an 800cc inline three-cylinder engine which delivers 94bhp and 79Nm of torque through a six-speed gearbox. It is priced at Rs 11 lakhs.
