Triumph has launched the Street Twin at Rs 6.9 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). As the new entry-level model, the Street Twin has replaced the old air-cooled Bonneville in Triumph’s Indian line-up.
The Street Twin is developed from ground up as a new model, and is underpinned by a brand new liquid-cooled platform. The round headlamp, indicators, clocks and the classic-shaped fuel tank accentuate the Street Twin’s retro character. The frame, engine, side panels and the cast alloy wheels have been blacked out to give it a sinister look. A low seat height makes the motorcycle accessible to a wider range of audience.
The Street Twin employs an 899cc ‘high torque’ engine which has been tuned to deliver 18 per cent more torque in the low and mid-range than the previous Bonneville. The engine delivers 80Nm of toque through a six-speed transmission. Despite being an entry-level model, Triumph has equipped the Street Twin with modern technology like ABS, traction control, ride-by-wire throttle, and LED lamps.
The Triumph Street Twin will be available in four paint schemes - cranberry red, aluminium silver, matt black and jet black. It competes with other middleweight motorcycles like the Harley-Davidson Iron 883 and the Ducati Scrambler. Deliveries across the country will commence fro March 2016.
