Triumph has delivered 70 Street Twin motorcycles within a month of its launch at the 2016 Auto Expo, making it the most popular model in the company’s Indian portfolio. The Street Twin’s classic appeal and a good word of mouth about its versatility has led to the model enjoying a waiting period stretching from three weeks to three months.
The Triumph Street Twin replaced the old Bonneville as the entry-level model in the British manufacturer’s line-up. Donning the look of a lightweight classic, the Street Twin has been developed from ground up as a new model. Its 899cc ‘high torque’ engine churns out 80Nm of torque and has been tuned to offer the best of both worlds. The Street Twin’s ability to double up as a street bike and a highway muncher has struck a chord with its buyers. Despite being an entry-level model, Triumph has equipped the Street Twin with modern technology like ABS, traction control, ride-by-wire throttle and LED lamps. Among the five paint schemes that the bike is available in, the cranberry red colour has turned out to be the favourite.
The launch of the Street Twin last month has helped Triumph register its highest ever sales figures in the current fiscal year. The cumulative sales number of the rest of the Triumph line-up in the last month was just 22, which in itself hints at the Street Twin’s popularity. With prices starting at Rs 6.9 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Street Twin goes up against the Ducati Scrambler and the Harley-Davidson Iron 883.
