Triumph has just revealed specifications and pricing for the Bonneville Street Twin. It has a completely new engine with a 270 degree firing interval. Triumph has claimed 22 per cent more power and 18 per cent more torque than the old air-cooled Bonneville engine. Triumph has also reworked the chassis and suspension for improved control and comfort.
The 900cc ‘high torque’ motor makes a claimed 54bhp@5900rpm and 80Nm of torque. It weighs 198kg dry, will do a claimed 32 Km/l and service intervals have been increased from 10,000kms to 16,000kms. The Street Twin will cost £7,300 (Rs 7,34,000) in the United Kingdom.
The current Bonneville is priced at Rs 6,19,990 (Ex-showroom, Delhi) but we can expect Street Twin to be priced significantly higher. Along with the mechanical updates, Triumph has added many electronic gizmos, some of which are the Traction Control which takes advantage of the sophisticated ride-by-wire system which helps controlling the increased torque. The motorcycle will also feature an Immobiliser which will contribute to the safety, it will have an under seat USB socket and a LED rear light.
The Street Twin will also host a new custom accessory range with 150 ‘dealer fit’ accessories. One can also choose from the 3 available kits which consists of the Scrambler, Brat Tracker or the Urban inspiration kit. Considering the number of mechanical, electrical and cosmetic changes we can expect the price to be between Rs 6,50,000 – Rs 7,00,000. The Street Twin will be available at dealerships from January 2016 in the United Kingdom. We can expect to see it at the Triumph stand at the Auto Expo in February, and the launch later in the year.
