-Rajiv Bajaj hints at new 400cc bike launch in 2024
-Could be the Thruxton 400 based on the Speed 400
-The bike has been spotted testing
The Triumph Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400X ushered a new era for the company as it launched these new 400cc bikes last year. Developed and built in association with Bajaj Auto, the bikes surprised everyone with their price to performance and quality ratio. In 2024, Triumph could launch the third motorcycle based on this platform as per a statement made by Bajaj Auto’s Rajiv Bajaj.
The new 400cc bike that he is hinting at could possibly be theThruxton 400. Test mules of the Triumph Thruxton 400 have been spotted on a couple of occasions and by the looks of it, the bike is based on the Triumph Speed 400.
The visual difference between the Speed 400 and the Thruxton 400 is the latter gets a semi-fairing, and it looks similar in shape to the Speed Triple RR, which is sold in international markets. The test bike also has the same round LED headlight as the Speed and Scrambler 400.
In keeping with the cafe racer positioning of the Thruxton 400, the bike has lower set clip-on handlebars instead of the single piece handlebar that you see on the Speed 400. This makes the rider’s triangle more sportier than the Speed’s. The fairing should also lend the Thruxton 400 more visual mass which is lacking in the Speed 400, perhaps one of its drawbacks.
The rest of the bike, be it the chassis, suspension or the engine should be the same as in the other Speed 400. To recap, the bikes have a 399cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that makes 39.5bhp and 37.5Nm. It is paired with a six-speed gearbox.
In terms of pricing, expect the Thruxton 400 to sit between the Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400.
