-Launch likely during the festive season
-Based on the Speed 400
-Will share the Speed 400’s engine and hardware
The Triumph 400cc platform is set to feature a new motorcycle in the form of the Thruxton 400. The launch is most likely to take place during the festive season of 2024 and should follow the one-year launch anniversary of the Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400X.
This Thruxotn 400 is, essentially, the Triumph Speed 400 with a beautifully shaped semi-fairing that resembles the one on the Speed Triple RR. The semi-fairing alone adds some much-needed visual mass to the motorcycle, which is sorely lacking in the Speed 400. It simply doesn’t have the kind of road presence that a 400cc bike is expected by the Indian market.
The Truxton 400 will share the same body panels as on the Speed 400, meaning it’ll have a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, a triangular-shaped side panel, and a sleek section, with an exposed subframe. We expect to see the same levels of quality as well as fit and finish on the Truxton 400 as we’ve seen on the Speed 400. The quality of the Triumph 400cc platform has been one of its strongest selling points, especially considering the price.
We expect Triumph to tweak the riding position of teh Thruxton 400 to suit the cafe racer stance of the bike. It’l have slightly lower set clip-ons for a sportier rider’s triangle.
As for the engine, chassis, and rest of the hardware, expect it to be identical to the Speed 400. It is a 399cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that makes 39.5bhp and 37.5Nm. It is paired with a six-speed gearbox. The suspension components comprise a USD fork and monoshock.
At present, the Triumph Speed 400 is priced at Rs 2.35 lakh while the Scrambler 400X costs Rs 2.65 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. The Thruxon 400 might slot in between these bikes, around the Rs 2.5 lakh mark.
