- Reduces seat height by 20mm
- Available on all Tiger 1200 models
Tall seat height is one of the top deterrents for shorter riders when buying and owning an adventure motorcycle. For most people, not being able to reach the ground with both feet while being on a bike hampers control and confidence to a great extent. Taking this into consideration, Triumph Motorcycles has introduced a new active preload reduction feature for its Tiger 1200 range of full-size adventure tourers.
The new feature will be accessible by long pressing the ‘Home’ button on the right side switchgear of these bikes. Through this functionality, riders will be able to automatically reduce the rear monoshock preload by as much as 20mm while coming to a halt, which should be substantial in the real world. While the standard seat height of the Tiger 1200 GT models goes up to 870mm, the Rally trims are even taller with saddles heights of up to a towering 895mm. With the active preload reduction setting, the minimum achievable seat heights are 830mm and 855mm for the GT and Rally variants, respectively.
Notably, a similar feature is available in the Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250’s top-spec Special variant. However, the Harley’s semi-active electronic suspension automatically lowers the rear preload on slowing down, without having to press a button. Nevertheless, the introduction of such features on more ADVs is crucial for garnering a higher number of riders towards the incredible genre of adventure motorcycles.
