- New Tiger 850 Sport launch tomorrow
- Will sit below Tiger 900 GT
- Likely to be priced around Rs 11.5 lakh
Triumph Motorcycles will expand its adventure tourer line-up tomorrow by launching the new Tiger 850 Sport. This motorcycle will sit below Tiger 900 GT.
This British motorcycle will primarily go against bikes like the BMW F750GS and is being positioned as a premium tourer. It borrows most of the styling, mechanicals and feature from its 900cc siblings, but has been smartly positioned below by pricing it lower in the international markets. The company would use the same strategy for the Indian market.
The Tiger 850 Sport gets its power from the same 888cc inline-three cylinder engine used in the Tiger 900. And while the bore and stroke and internals are the same, Triumph has retuned the mapping. This has resulted in a peak power output of 84bhp at 8500rpm, down from 93.9bhp at 8750rpm and peak torque of 81.3Nm 6500rpm that is down from 86.7Nm at 7250rpm on the Tiger 900 range.
‘The rest of the cycle parts like Marzochhi suspension and Brembo Stylema brakes have been borrowed from its other sibling. In terms of electronic rider aids, it is nearly similar to the Tiger 900 GT. So it gets two riding modes- Road and Rain, switchable traction control, USB charging port, full-LED lighting and the five-inch, full-colour TFT display.
The Tiger 900 GT retails for Rs 13.7 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). So we can expect the Tiger 850 Sport to be priced at around 11.5 lakh to make it a competitive motorcycle.
