Triumph Motorcycles is one of the biggest premium motorcycle brands in India and for good reason. They are always looking to introduce new models and grow their sales numbers and dealer network in India. According to reports, their next introduction will be the updated Tiger Explorer range.
Triumph’s latest to hit the Indian market was the Thruxton R which is part of their modern classic segment. Moreover, the entire range of this segment was updated this year. Next up is said to be the adventure and touring segment which consists of the Tiger family. The upcoming 2016 Tiger Explorer models will be two main variants and further divided into 6 sub variants. Namely, the XC range being divided into XC, XCa and the XCx. While the XR range consists of XR, XRx and the XRt.
The new Euro-4 compliant range of Tiger Explorers features a 1215cc three-cylinder engine that has been worked upon to deliver five per cent more fuel economy than the outgoing model. Power figures on this bike stand at 137bhp at 9300rpm and 123Nm at 6200rpm. Gearbox is six-speed that transfers power to the rear wheel via a shaft drive.
While being mechanically identical, the changes are seen on the features front. The XCX, XCA, XRX, XRT models gets WP semi-active suspension with auto-levelling rear preload and a torque assist clutch whereas the XRx and XCx models have a low seat option. Other features that are loaded onto the new Tiger Explorer are cornering ABS, traction control, five riding modes (road, rain, off-road, sport and custom) and a hill hold function. Interestingly, the new Tiger Explorer is also equipped with an inertia measurement unit that measures yaw, pitch, roll and acceleration across three planes – vertical, lateral and longitudinal.
In terms of pricing, expect Triumph to slightly hike the prices over the current models in the Tiger Explorer line-up.
