The Triumph Tiger Sport 800 has been unveiled and it bridge the gap between the Tiger Sport 660 and the Tiger 900. The Tiger Sport 800 shares much in common with the Tiger Sport 660 but there is a lot that’s different as well. Here are its key highlights.
New engine
The Tiger Sport 800 is powered by a 798cc, inline-triple engine that makes 113bhp and 84Nm. These power and torque figures are in the same ballpark of the competition like the BMW F 900 XR. Triumph says that the engine has been tuned to offer a strong mid range for better rideability in the city as well as the highway. Not to mention the intake roar and the scream from the exhaust of an inline-triple that will be one of the big highlights of the Tiger Sport 800’s engine. This engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox with a quickshifter as standard.
Competent chassis
The frame of the Tiger Sport 800 is the same as the Tiger Sport 660. However, the ‘800’ gets a fully adjustable Showa USD and a Showa monoshock with a remote preload adjuster. It rides on 17-inch wheels shod with Michellin tyres. Braking duties, meanwhile, are taken care of by twin 310mm discs at the front and a 255mm disc brake at the rear. The chassis is said to be lightweight which aids the flickable handling of the bike.
Loaded with electronics
The Tiger Sport 800 is loaded with electronics for it to take the fight to the competition. There is a six-axis IMU controlled traction control and cornering ABS. It also gets three ride modes-Rain, Road and Sport.
These electronic safety aids are more than welcome in scenarios such as wet roads. For added convenience, the bike gets cruise control as standard.
Evolved styling
The styling of the Tiger Sport 800 is similar to what we’ve seen on the Tiger Sport 660. It has a sharp fairing with twin LED headlights and new, fang-shaped LED DRLs.
The side and tail sections gel with the rest of the design of the bike. Even the adjustable windscreen and the wind deflectors placed next to it are neatly styled. The bike certainly looks great in colours such as the Cosmic Yellow and the Sapphire Black you see here.
