Triumph Motorcycles will finally launch the Bonneville Speedmaster on February 27th. This makes this launch the company’s first in the current calendar year.
The Bonneville Speedmaster is a cruiser version of the Bobber. It’s been targeted at countries that have demand for such cruisers. While the Speedmaster looks quite identical to its single-seater cousin, the Bobber does get some additions that makes it stand out. Things like chrome, wide handlebar, and pillion seat gives the Speedmaster a distinctive identity.
This cruiser uses the same 1200cc ‘High-Torque’ engine as the Bobber which 76bhp at 6100rpm and 106Nm at 4000rpm. It also shares the Bobber’s ‘swing-cage’ type swingarm. Triumph has increased the fuel-tank capacity to 12-litres to give the cruiser a bit more in touring capabilities. The Speedmaster gets a suspension upgrade with 41mm KYB forks up front. The rear gets a KYB monoshock that is hidden away under the seat. The bike also gets Brembo brakes for the front and a single-disc Nissin at the rear.
Just like the most of the bikes in the Bonneville family, the Speedmaster too gets a host of latest technologies. It sports two riding modes- road and rain, switchable traction control and cruise control along with ABS.
The Bonneville Speedmaster will go against the Harley-Davidson 1200 Custom and the Indian Scout in the Indian market. It will be sold as a completely-knocked-down(CKD) unit through all Triumph showrooms. We’re expecting this bike to be priced close to Rs 10 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).
