Triumph will be locally assembling 90 per cent of its portfolio by the end of this financial year. Mr Vimal Sumbly, managing director, Triumph Motorcycles India, also said that the company is looking at doubling its motorcycle sales over the next five years.
As of now, Triumph locally assembles 70 per cent of its line-up. With over 1,200 motorcycles sold last year, Triumph enjoys the second spot among premium motorcycle manufacturers. This year, the company is on path to achieving its target of 1,300 units. While this translates into a growth of just eight per cent, the new products developed in conjunction with Bajaj should give the numbers a shot in the arm. Currently, the Tiger is the most popular model range in India, followed closely by the Bonneville range.
As for network expansions, Triumph will add three new dealerships in Gurgaon, Mangalore and Goa in this financial year. This will take the dealership tally up to 17. By 2020, the company will open eight more dealerships.
