Triumph will be will be setting up a facility in Gurgoan-Manesar industrial area to support CKD (completely-knocked-down units) operations. The earlier plans of setting up a CKD plant in the Narsapura area in Bangalore has been postponed and is likely to be operational by 2015. Triumph will start selling their range of motorcycles in India from September but setting up assembly plant is just three months is a very difficult task. There is a possibility of the first few lots of motorcycles to come to India via completely-built-up (CBU) route.
The exact location of the factory is still not known but the company has opened a purchasing office in Gurgaon. The British auto maker has also hired recruitment firm for hiring and are expecting the whole process to end in July.
The company had first revealed their line of motorcycles during the 2012 Auto Expo and was expecting to start its operations in India soon. But due to the unexpected resignation of then managing director, the launch plans got delayed. Triumph India will soon be revealing their planned activities in the country once their complete operations are streamlined.
"They want to test the Indian market. The Gurgaon-Manesar belt will act as a stepping stone. At Narsapura, a full-fledged manufacturing facility will come up in 2015." said a source to Livemint.
The British motorcycle maker had announced mouth-watering introductory prices during the Auto Expo but we expect them to be much higher at the time of launch due to inflation, depreciating rupee and other macro-economic factors.
