- Recall announced in the USA
- Equipped with a faulty sensor
- Around 7,500 units could be affected
Triumph Motorcycles USA has initiated a recall for the Trident 660 and the Tiger Sport 660. About 7,500 models built and sold in the USA between 6 January 2021 and 27 July 2023 have been affected by a malfunctioning Manifold Air Pressure (MAP) sensor. This could further lead to the ECU receiving incorrect reading data and thereby stalling the engine. As mentioned earlier, only Triumph America has recalled the bikes so far.
At the moment, it isn’t clear whether any of the Trident 660s or the Tiger Sport 660s that were sold in India have been affected by the MAP sensor. However, we recommend the readers keep an eye out as a precautionary measure.
Both the Triumph bikes are based on the same platform and are powered by the same 660cc inline triple-cylinder engine. It develops 80bhp and 64Nm for both. The engine is linked to a six-speed gearbox and benefits from a slipper clutch. Even the hardware on the two Triumph 660s is the same: USD front forks and rear monoshock with a dual front and single rear disc.
The asking price for the Trident 660 and the Tiger Sport 660 in India is set at Rs. 8.12 lakh and Rs. 9.34 lakh (both ex-showroom, Delhi) respectively. The Trident rivals the Kawasaki Z650 and the Honda CB650R. Meanwhile, the Tiger locks the horns with Kawasaki Versys 650 and the Suzuki V-Storm 650XT.
