Triumph is developing a new Scrambler based on the Street Twin’s platform. An early prototype of the new Scrambler was spotted testing in Europe, indicating at Triumph’s plans of replacing its current model with a more contemporary Euro IV compliant motorcycle.
While the new Triumph Street Twin can already be specified with a Scrambler Inspiration kit, this new model will be developed from ground up as a proper Scrambler. Apart from the quintessential retro looks, it will also get a few add ons to make it the multipurpose tool that Scramblers are traditionally meant to be. It gets spoked wheels, a flat seat and a chopped rear fender. The handlebar is raised while the engine gets the protection of a bash guard. Whereas the Inspiration kit is offered with a straight out Vance and Hines pipe, this prototype gets a street-legal twin pipe setup with catalytic converters. Powering the Scrambler is the same 899cc ‘high torque’ engine from the Street Twin, delivering 80Nm of toque through a six-speed transmission. The Scrambler will also get rider aids like ABS, traction control and ride-by-wire throttle.
While Triumph launched three new models - the Bonneville T120, Street Twin and the Thruxton last year, reports hint that this is not the end of it. The company is planning to introduce a slew of models in different body styles, over the course of this year. This specific model will go head on against the Ducati Scrambler, BMW RnineT Scramber and the Yamaha XSR700.
