The recent alliance between Triumph and Bajaj has made the world wonder if the previously planned 250cc Triumphs will be launched. The answer to this is no. The alliance doesn’t plan to make any foray into the 250cc space.
This news was confirmed by Ravikumar, president, business development Bajaj. This new partnership will focus only on creating mid-capacity motorcycles that will be sold in India as well as in the rest of the world.
“The new motorcycles will combine the iconic heritage of Triumph with the back end efficiencies of Bajaj, thus creating a unique product unavailable to both partners," said Ravikumar.
The usage of iconic heritage in his statement makes us believe that the new bikes will be a part of the modern classic range and will definitely carry some Bonneville inspiration. Bajaj has been trying really hard to crack the premium cruiser segment and maybe an entry-level Bonneville with water-cooled parallel twin motor and classic styling might work for the Pune-based manufacturer.
It is still not clear if the upcoming bike will be a 500cc one or a 750cc model. If it’s a 500cc bike, then Harley-Davidson might plan to introduce the Street 500 in India. This American cruiser is locally made, which gives it a pricing advantage.
