Triumph’s two new litre-class cafe racer motorcycles have been spotted testing in Spain. Though the motorcycle looked similar to the Thruxton classic motorcycle, these test mules sported a larger 1,100cc engine, which hints at the British manufacturer’s intentions of entering a new segment.
The new cafe racer will be powered by a 1,100cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine. This engine is expected to make around 90bhp, which is 22bhp more than what the Thruxton produces through its 865cc air-cooled unit. The two test mules featured different suspension setup, which indicates that like other motorcycles in its range, the new cafe racer will be sold in a standard and a sportier ‘R’ version.
The R model sported Ohlins front suspension from the Speed Triple R at the front and adjustable Ohlins S36 twin shocks in the rear. Braking hardware consisted of four-pot Brembo brakes. The R model also featured a single-seat.
Triumph had recently trademarked the ‘Speed Tracker’ name and chances are that this moniker will be used for these new cafe racer models. We can expect the new models to be unveiled late next year at the 2015 EICMA, which means that it will hit the production line only by 2016.
