TVS has been testing its upcoming motorcycle - the Akula on the Hosur - Bengaluru highway since June. One such camouflaged prototype was spied testing in Bengaluru recently.
The company had unveiled the Akula as a concept at the 2016 Auto Expo. Based on the BMW G310R, the Akula concept had carbon fibre body work to keep it racing oriented. However, the production model is expected to lose this expensive body work and get plastic body panels to keep costs in check. The prototype was equipped with an LED tail light, which we think will make its way to the production model as well.
Interestingly, the ergonomics of the test mule doesn’t look aggressive like we see in other supersport motorcycles. It’s more relaxed and comfortable. There’s a high chance TVS might market this motorcycle as an everyday commuter bike. The Akula is powered by the same 313cc engine that powers the G310R and the G310GS. This engine generates 33bhp and 28Nm of maximum torque. But we’re expecting TVS to retune the Akula’s engine to generate more power at the top-end.
TVS might launch this motorcycle by the end of the current financial year. When it does, it will compete with the KTM RC200 and the Honda CBR250R.
