New spy shots of TVS Akula have given us a first glimpse into how the production version of this bike is going to look like.
While the TVS Akula has been caught on camera several times, this is the first time it has been spotted completely undisguised. The TVS Akula concept first broke cover at the Auto Expo last year. While the concept displayed was a carbon fibre-clad track bike, this model features a mildly revised design to make it production feasible. The front end gets a twin headlamp setup with a tall windscreen. The tail section now gets a pillion seat while the race-spec exhaust has been ditched in favour of a conventional end can. The clip-on handlebars have also been raised to make it more comfortable for everyday use.
Under the skin is a 313cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, mated to a six-speed transmission. This engine has been borrowed from the BMW G310R, also expected to be launched in India this year. The Akula will be TVS' first fully-faired production motorcycle, and will compete with the KTM RC200 and the Honda CBR250R.
