The TVS Akula is going to be launched in India before the end of this financial year. This was revealed by Arun Siddharth, VP, marketing (motorcycles) of TVS Motor Company.
Speaking about the changing trends in Indian two-wheeler industry, Arun said that the Akula will help the company capture a larger share in the rapidly growing premium small-capacity motorcycles segment. He added that the youth is now looking for motorcycles that are powerful apart from being stylish and technologically advanced. TVS had launched the Apache RTR 200 4V earlier this year, and the monthly sales now stand at 4,000 units. Over the next few months the company expects the number to grow to 8,000 to 10,000 units.
A fully-faired version of the BMW G310 R, the Akula 310 will be the first fully-faired TVS motorcycle. The Akula 310 concept was first shown at the 2016 Auto Expo as a carbon fibre clad supersport motorcycle. While the concept was pegged as a lightweight track tool, the production model is a street bike with several changes to make it road-legal. The fairing encloses a 313cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed transmission. It will compete with the likes of the KTM RC390 and the Honda CBR 250R.
