TVS Motors has launched its first fully-faired, small supersports model, the Apache RR 310, for Rs 2.05 lakhs (ex-showroom). Popularly known as the TVS Akula, the RR 310 comes with a single cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected 310cc engine.
The engine makes a max power of 34bhp and a peak torque of around 27Nm. The RR gets a 6-speed gearbox and comes with dual channel ABS as standard.
Also standard on the Apache RR 310 is an all-LED headlamp, a fully digital instrument console, split seats, and a 150-section rear tyre. The RR 310 is available in only one version and two colour options - Red and matte grey.
In terms of cycle parts, it gets upside down forks or USDs at the front and a preload adjustable rear monoshock besides a tubular chassis and an alloy swingarm to reduce weight and increase rigidity. Braking is handled by Bybre-supplied 300mm front disc and a 240mm disc at the rear.
The Apache RR 310, which is one of the first Indian motorcycles to have been developed using wind tunnel testing in India, is also TVS Motors' first product based on the BMW-TVS alliance platform. In terms of performance, TVS claims that the RR 310 can hit 60kmph in 2.9 seconds and can record a top speed of 160kmph.
The new TVS Apache RR 310 competes against the more expensive KTM RC390 and the Kawasaki Ninja 300. Also, given its price and position, the RR 310 might find favour with prospective Bajaj Dominar 400 buyers as well.
