BMW Motorrad India has released a teaser image of a new product that will be launched in our market next month. While the company has kept most of the details under cover, the teaser image hints that the Indian arm of the Bavarian manufacturer will introduce a TVS Apache RR310-based motorcycle to rival the likes of the KTM RC 390. Here we tell you everything that we know so far about the motorcycle.
Styling
The teaser image showed the tail-end of the motorcycle that looks identical to the TVS Apache RR310. While the finer details are not available yet, we expect this new model to be a rebranded Apache RR 310 that will be sold via BMW Motorrad dealerships. Thus, expect this new 310-series model to feature a twin-pod headlight, vertically-mounted colour TFT display, muscular fuel tank, split-style seats, and a side-slung exhaust. While the styling may remain similar to the TVS Apache RR310, the BMW-branded motorcycle might get different paint themes and graphics. Needless to say, the ‘TVS’ and ‘Apache RR310’ logos would be replaced by BMW units.
Engine
We do not expect the mechanical specifications to change either, and this upcoming BMW motorcycle should retain the 312cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor from the Apache RR310. Linked to a six-speed gearbox, this motor is tuned to produce 34bhp and 27.3Nm of peak torque. Similar to the TVS product, the upcoming BMW 310-series model should also get riding modes among other electronic aids.
Hardware
Similar to the styling and engine, the new BMW 310-series motorcycle should retain the hardware from the Apache RR310. The TVS model comes standard with upside-down front forks, rear mono-shock, and disc brakes on both wheels. Moreover, TVS Motor Company offers a Built-To-Order or BTO service under which buyers can upgrade to adjustable suspension setup. We may not see BTO package on the BMW motorcycle, but the stock hardware should remain identical to the standard Apache RR310.
Features
The feature list will retain full-LED lighting – a feature that is already available on the G 310 R and the G 310 GS. However, unlike the other 310-series models, this new motorcycle is expected to benefit from a Bluetooth-enabled colour-TFT display and selectable riding modes. Do note that these features are already available on the TVS Apache RR310. These features would help the motorcycle compete against its direct rival, the KTM RC 390.
Expected Price
BMW Motorrad India should aim to price this product competitively, although we expect it to carry a premium over the TVS Apache RR310. The TVS motorcycle, for reference, is available at Rs 2.65 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). We can expect the faired BMW to sport pricing of around Rs 2.80 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The motorcycle will be unveiled on 15 July, 2022.
