- Demands a premium of Rs 6,000 over the standard version
- Rear-disc ABS variant retails at Rs 87,719
- No other mechanical upgrades
TVS has launched the Apache RTR 160 with a single-channel ABS unit in India. The front disc with ABS is priced at Rs 84,710 while the rear-disc with ABS version is priced at Rs 87,719. (All prices ex-showroom, Bengaluru)
Both versions retail at a premium of around Rs 6,000 over the non-ABS variants which will soon be taken off the shelves. Apart from the ABS unit, the bike is unchanged. It continues to be powered by a 160cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine with a two-valve head. This carburetted motor is capable of generating 15bhp at 8500rpm and 13Nm of torque at 6000rpm. It is mated to a five-speed gearbox. Braking hardware is also similar to the outgoing models apart from the single-channel ABS. So there is a 270mm front disc and an option of a drum or a 200mm disc brake at the rear.
In terms of design, the Apache RTR 160 ABS sports the aggressive styling which was introduced with the earlier Apaches. The scowling headlamp which consists of twin LED DRLs, the sculpted fuel tank and the edgy engine cowl add to its sporty appeal. The Apache RTR 160 ABS faces direct competition from the Honda CB Hornet 160R, Suzuki Gixxer and the Bajaj Pulsar NS160 along with its own sibling, the Apache RTR 160 4V.
