TVS Motor Company has announced the launch of the new Apache RTR 165 RP (Race Performance) that will be sold in very limited numbers. The new Apache RTR 165 RP packs styling and mechanical upgrades over the standard Apache RTR 160 4V and here we list the top five highlights of the motorcycle.
Styling
The new Apache RTR 165 RP retains the design of the standard Apache RTR 160 4V, although it gets its own unique set of graphics. This limited-edition motorcycle features a tricolour paint theme and TVS Racing decals. The paint theme is visible on the fuel tank, front fender, and the engine cowl, and includes white, blue, and red. The styling elements retained from the standard Apache RTR 160 4V include a single-pod headlight with integrated DRL, a single-piece handlebar, a 12-litre fuel tank, an engine cowl, step-up seat, and a side-slung exhaust.
Features
The feature list remains similar to the standard Apache RTR 160 4V, and this new model packs an LED headlight with LED DRL at the front, an LED taillight at the back, a fully-digital instrument cluster, and a single-channel ABS.
Engine
The new Apache RTR 165 RP is based on the Apache RTR 160 4V. However, it uses a revised bore to stroke ratio that increases the displacement by a small margin. The mechanical specifications on the RP edition include a 164.9cc, single-cylinder, four-valve engine as against 159.7cc, single-cylinder, four-valve motor on the standard model.
Linked to a five-speed gearbox, the engine on the Apache RTR 165 RP makes 18.9bhp at 10,000rpm and 14.2Nm of peak torque at 8,750rpm versus 17.3bhp at 9,250rpm and 14.73Nm at 7,250rpm on the standard Apache RTR 160 4V. The new cylinder head on the Apache RTR 165 RP gets a 35 per cent increase in intake, a twin electrode spark plug and 15 per cent bigger valves. TVS Motor Company claims a top speed of 123kmph.
Hardware
The suspension tasks are handled by Showa-sourced telescopic front forks and preload-adjustable rear mono-shock. The braking department comprises a 270mm petal-type disc at the front and a first-in-segment 240mm petal-type rotor at the back. It tips the weighing scale at 148kg (kerb) and boasts a seat height of 800mm.
