TVS Motor Company yesterday launched their most anticipated motorcycle – the Apache RTR 200 4V. This is the first 200cc motorcycle by the Hosur-based manufacturer that will take on the Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 and the Pulsar 220F.
While you can read the launch story of the new Apache RTR 200 4V here, this article will cover detailed features and specifications of this new flagship motorcycle. Let’s talk about its engine first. The Apache RTR 200 4V gets a 198cc single-cylinder engine which generates 20.21bhp at 8500rpm and a peak torque of 18.1Nm at 7000rpm. But these figures are of the carbureted version. TVS has also revealed a fuel-injected version of the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V, which is marginally more powerful with 20.71bhp at 8500rpm. Both the versions are mated to a five-speed gearbox with a one down four up shift pattern. The bore and stroke of this engine stands at 66mm and 57.8mm respectively. The ‘4V’ in the bike's name refers to the inclusion of four valves in the cylinder head. The FI version of the Apache RTR 200 4V gets a closed loop fuel injection sourced from Bosch for better fueling and to meet the emission norms.
It also sports a double cradle split frame, which has been developed for sports riding. TVS wanted its new Apache to be track focussed but at the same time comfortable for city riding. The bike gets beefy 37mm telescopic forks at the front and a KYB monoshock at the rear – a first for a TVS motorcycle. In terms of overall dimensions, the Apache RTR 200 4V is 2050mm long, 790mm wide and 1105mm tall. With a saddle height of 800mm, it’s easy for short riders to get on the motorcycle. Talking about its rubber, the bike rides on 90/90 section TVS Remora tyres at the front and 130/70 section tyres in the rear. Both tyres are fitted on 17-inch alloy wheels, borrowed from the Draken concept. TVS is offering this bike with Pirelli tyres as well, but for that you’ll have to shell out and additional Rs 10,000.
Braking was taken care of by a 270mm petal type disc at the front and 240mm petal type disc in the rear. For better safety, TVS has also introduced an ABS version, which comes with a dual channel system sourced from Bosch. The bike tips the scale at 148kg for the carbureted version and 148.5kg for the fuel injected one. With a fuel tank capacity of 12 litres, the bike can go for close to 400kms before stopping at a petrol pump. TVS claims a top speed of 127kmph for the carbureted version and 129kmph for the EFI.
The TVS Apache RTR 200 4V is equipped with one of the best looking instrument cluster. The white backlight and black fonts, provides the rider with better visibility of the data. This instrument cluster displays tons of information like the tachometer, speedometer, odometer abd trip meter. Other than this, the cluster also sports a clock, gear indicator, service reminders, low battery and gear shift indicator and lap timer.
With the inclusion of ABS and fuel injection, TVS has tried to cater to a wide range of motorcycle enthusiasts in the country. In order to make your life easy, we list down all the variants for the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V that will be sold in India in the next couple of months.
