TVS Motor Company has finally launched its first 200cc motorcycle, the Apache RTR 200 4V, for the Indian market. For now, this motorcycle has been introduced in a single carbueretted version, priced at Rs 88,990 (ex-showroom Delhi).
Based on the Draken X21 Concept, the Apache RTR 200 4V is answer to Bajaj's Pulsar NS200 and AS200. In terms of design and styling, the Hosur-based manufacturer has stuck to its concept, which makes the overall outcome quite appreciable. The alloy wheels and the fuel tank design have been taken straight from the Draken. Also the fascia gets sharp styling in order to give it the perfect naked streetfighter look. From the side, the Apache RTR 200 4V resembles the discontinued Ducati 848 Streetfighter, and we definitely aren't complaining.
The Apache RTR 200 4V is powered by a new 200cc single cylinder oil-cooled engine. This carburetted engine produces 20.21bhp at 8500rpm and maximum torque of 18.1Nm at 7000rpm. This engine is mated to a five-speed gearbox, with one down four up shift configurations. The braking department is taken care of by a 270mm disc at the front and 240mm disc at the rear. We can expect an ABS-equipped version to be introduced in the next one and a half month.
For the fuel injected engine, power is marginally more at 20.71bhp at 850rpm. TVS claims that this FI motorcycle can do 0-60kmph in 3.9 seconds and 0-100kmph under 12 seconds. This version will also get the option of a dual-channel ABS system and Pirelli tyres. However, this version will be launched in India at a later date.
TVS has equipped the Apache RTR 200 4V with a detailed instrument cluster which looks pretty good. The combination of white back light and black fonts makes it easy for rider to read the data even during high speed run. The Apache RTR 200 4V is offered in seven colours – matte red, matte yellow, matte white, matte grey, matte black, black and white.
