I first rode the TVS Apache RTR 310 during the Indian Motorcycle of the Year (IMOTY) 2023 judging process. After spending a day with it, I was eager to delve deeper into its capabilities. And that is because this motorcycle is probably one of the most feature-rich motorcycles in the segment. And now, I have the RTR 310 for a few months as a long-termer at BikeWale
My objective is straightforward : to test the RTR 310 as a daily commuter on Indian city roads. My daily commute involves 140km of gruelling city and highway traffic in and around Mumbai. If there are no travel or shoots involved, my monthly commute distance on the RTR 310 will be close to 3000km, and that is one heck of a long-term experience.
The monsoon in Mumbai is nearing its end, and that means, the roads are already in the most miserable and challenging conditions – a scenario familiar to most Indian cities. In short, the RTR 310 has come at the right time. This will allow me to test it exhaustively and also give a detailed experience to all the prospective buyers. There are plans to take it on a long ride as well, like a proper 1000km a day ride. But I’m planning to do this closer to the year-end as the potholes on NH4 are likely to be fixed by then.
The TVS RTR 310 that we received is the top-spec yellow model. So it gets the quickshifter, cruise control and also the cooled seat.
This TVS is powered by a 312cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled motor which makes 35bhp and a peak torque of 29Nm. The gearbox is a six-speed one and it has slightly been altered to suit the city habits. The bike also gets fully adjustable suspension, a colour TFT screen which also shows TPMS and some good looking paint scheme. There are other bits like LED lights and smartphone applications.
