TVS Motor Company recently heated up the competition in the 300-400cc street bike segment by launching the new Apache RTR 310 in India. While mechanically it’s based on the existing Apache RR310 fully-faired motorcycle, TVS has kitted up the new RTR 310 with a lot of impressive equipment. If this new entrant is on your list of options to consider as your next motorcycle, here are the top five things you need to know about it.
Overloaded with features
The TVS Apache RTR 310 has clearly replaced the KTM 390 Duke as the benchmark in terms of modern features. First up is the 5-inch TFT console that gets a host of connectivity options and allows you to tinker with the electronics. Interestingly, the amount of rider aids it offers can put much bigger bikes to shame. There are five riding modes, cornering ABS, wheelie control, cornering traction control, rear lift-off control, cruise control, slope-dependent control, glide-through function, tyre pressure monitoring system, and a bi-directional quick shifter.
Premium hardware
Underpinned by a steel trellis frame with a new aluminium sub-frame, the Apache RTR 310 rides on 17-inch alloy wheels that are shod with upmarket Michelin Road 5 tyres. Suspension duties are handled by KYB upside-down front forks and a rear monoshock while anchors are dropped by a single disc brake at both ends.
While the stock hardware is already impressive, riders opting for the optional Dynamic kit get preload, rebound, and compression adjustability for the front forks and preload and rebound adjustment option for the monoshock. What’s more, the costlier Dynamic Pro kit also brings in dynamic stability control and a climate control seat that can heated or cooled by 15 degrees Celsius depending on the ambient temperature.
More powerful engine than the RR 310
Although the new Apache RTR 310 runs on the same 312.2cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine as the RR 310, the former makes marginally more power and torque than the latter, courtesy of subtle revisions. The RTR pumps out 35.08bhp and 28.7Nm while the RR’s performance numbers stand at 33.5bhp and 27.3Nm. Transmission duties continue to be handled by a six-speed gearbox with an assist and slipper clutch.
All-new bodywork
TVS has gone all out with the design of the Apache RTR 310 and made it look insanely athletic and sporty. The sharp twin-pod headlamp looks sinister and blends neatly with the sculpted fuel tank accompanied by pointed extensions and faux air intakes on both sides. The twin tail lamps, which resemble the Ducati Multistrada 950 to some extent, look really cool and complement the overall design nicely. The motorcycle is available in three colours – Fury Yellow, Arsenal Black, and Sepang Blue.
Prices
The prices of the TVS Apache RTR 310 start from Rs. 2,42,990 for the Arsenal Black paint (without quick shifter) and go up to Rs. 2,63,990 for the Fury Yellow trim (both prices are ex-showroom). If you opt for Dynamic kit or Dynamic Pro kit, it adds a premium of Rs. 18,000 and Rs. 22,000, respectively.
