During the launch of the Apache RTR 200 4V and the Victor, TVS Motor Company chairman, Mr Venu Srinivasan expressed their intention of becoming one of the top five two-wheeler manufacturers, on a global scale.
It is not just the Indian market that the Hosur-based manufacturer is focussing on. Indonesia, Thailand and other Latin American markets also present big opportunities for small-capacity motorcycle manufacturers. Speaking to ETAuto, Mr Srinivasan said, "We would like to be among the top five motorcycle manufacturers globally by 2020 and we would like to do that by focussing on products below 250cc and on southern hemisphere markets like South Asia, South East Asia, Africa and South America. We have made big strides in styling, fit and finish and we are becoming more nuanced and savvy."
In the Indian two-wheeler industry, TVS and Bajaj have been involved in a constant tug of war for the third spot for quite some time now. However, with the launch of the new CT100, Bajaj has received a major impetus. Pushing over 35,000 units a month, the commuter motorcycle has helped Bajaj establish a stronghold on the third spot in the Indian two-wheeler market. By reintroducing the Victor, TVS will now attempt to strike back and carve out a share in the executive commuter motorcycle segment.
