TVS has announced its participation in the 2016 Dakar, in partnership with Sherco Motorcycles. TVS and Sherco’s previous stint at the 2015 Dakar saw the two factory racers finish 25th and 29th. This year, the Sherco TVS team will attempt to better its result with riders Alain Duclos, Joan Pedrero and Florent Vayssade.
Sherco Motorcycles is an off-road specialist manufacturer popular for its enduro and supermoto motorcycles. The factory riders will race on the RTR 450, a motorcycle purpose built by Sherco to compete in the Dakar. The rally will be flagged off on January 2, 2016, taking the competitors through Argentina and Bolivia. The 9,319-kilometre race will take place in 14 stages over two weeks, culminating at Villa Carlos Paz, Rosario on January 16. While TVS hasn’t had any significant hand in the development of the race machine, we can safely expect the insight from the rally to influence the development of future TVS models.
Commenting on the team’s participation, Mr Arvind Pangaonkar, Head of Team TVS Racing said, "From a technical standpoint, participation in the Dakar Rally is the ultimate motorcycling challenge, nothing is really tougher than racing for two weeks across incredibly hostile environments. The close co-operation between TVS and Sherco and the seamless manner in which we learn and share is what makes this partnership stronger.”
