A new variant of TVS Jupiter equipped with a front disc brake and a fuel injection system has been spotted testing in Coimbatore.
Though the Jupiter test mule was completely undisguised, it would have been quite hard to miss the front disc brake on the scooter. Something more difficult to notice, however, is the O2 sensor on the exhaust pipe and the absence of a choke lever. Both these things hint that the fuelling of the test mule was taken care of by a fuel injection system.
Fitting a fuel injection system for an 110cc scooter might not seem like the most sensible thing to do as this could push the Jupiter into premium 125cc scooter territory. While this move would have seemed feasible for a 125cc scooter, it might not be the perfect upgrade for a 110cc scooter like the TVS Jupiter. However, this test mule does not necessarily confirm TVS’ intentions of launching this variant in India. TVS also has a significant market share in other global markets where fuel injected scooters are a common thing, and this variant could have been developed for these markets.
The disc brake, however, does seem like a viable optional extra for the Indian market, especially for a scooter like the TVS Jupiter. Besides offering better stopping power, it would also help up the premium quotient of the scooter. The TVS Jupiter rivals other 110cc scooters like the Honda Activa, Yamaha Cygnus Alpha and the Hero Maestro Edge.
