TVS Motor Company has launched its new Jupiter scooter in the Indian market for Rs. 44,200 (ex-showroom Delhi) The Jupiter is the fourth scooter offering from the Chennai based manufacturer and will sell along-side the Wego, Scooty Streak and the Scooty Pep+. The Jupiter has been specially designed and developed for male consumers who constitute 36 per cent of scooter sales in the country.
The Jupiter is powered by an 110cc single cylinder air-cooled engine that churns out eight bhp at 7500 rpm and 8Nm at 5500rpm. The scooter gets a V-Matic transmission and features an Econometer which guides riders in both ‘Eco Mode’ and ‘Power Mode’. The Jupiter gets telescopic suspension in the front and gas filled suspension at the rear, low fuel indicator and LED tail light.
The company has claimed a fuel-efficiency of 62 kmpl in ‘Eco Mode’. The scooter’s fuel tank can carry 5.3-litre of fuel and can be filled via an external fuel lid above the tail light – a feature that is offered in the Wego scooter. It has 17-litre under seat storage facility that can accommodate a full face helmet and also a mobile charging point. The 110cc scooter features a pass switch – the first in the Indian scooter segment.
TVS currently sells around 35,000 scooters per month and with the launch of the Jupiter, they are expecting it to touch 50,000 units a month by December. The company is expecting to sell 20,000 units of thee Jupiter by Diwali and will be exported to Bangladesh and Turkey. TVS Jupiter will be available in four colours – Pristine White, Midnight Black, Titanium Grey and Volcano Red. It will directly compete with the market leader Honda Activa. But pricewise it will compete with the recently launched Activa-i.
