TVS Motors has launched the XL 100 moped in six more regions in India including Andaman Nicobar, Bihar, Jharkhand, Kerala, Pondicherry and Uttarakhand. The company had launched the moped in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu first, and is now introducing it pan-India in a phased manner.
The TVS XL 100 is a new variant based on the Heavy Duty Super XL moped, powered by a 69.9cc, two-stroke, single-cylinder petrol engine that produced 3.5bhp of power and 5.0Nm of torque. The new one is powered by a larger 100cc air-cooled engine that produces 4bhp of power and 6.3Nm of torque. The bigger motor helps the moped attain a top speed of 60kmph and a fuel efficiency of 67kmpl.
The TVS XL 100 moped is priced at Rs 29,914 (ex-showroom, Trivandrum) and is offered in different colours like grey, black, blue, green and red. Though the two-wheeler is not really attractive, it is a practical motorcycle that offers an impressive payload capacity of about 130kg, despite its overall weight being 75kg. It is a very useful bike in rural regions where utilitarian features play an important role.
Besides, TVS Motors have already tasted a fair bit of success with their earlier Heavy Duty Super XL moped; and hope to continue the trend with the upgraded XL 100. We think the new 100cc moped, with the same utilitarian equipment like the Super XL, but a bigger engine, should also do well as its elder sibling all over the country.
