- TVS might be interested in Norton Motorcycles
- British brand went into administration
TVS has been wanting to gain market share and make its presence felt in the premium two-wheeler segment. The tie-up with BMW Motorrad and the launch of Apache RR310 were one of the few examples.
According to a report, the Hosur-based manufacturer is looking to bid for Norton motorcyles, a British premium bike maker that recently went into administration. The same report mentions that the company hasn’t made a final decision on whether to formally go ahead with it. Norton’s current CEO Stuart Gardner is being investigated for a pension fraud. According to UK regulators, Stuart Gardner was the trustee of three pension schemes that made people invest in Norton. The investors were promised tax-free income, but unfortunately, that never materialised.
It’s quite interesting to see how TVS will work with Norton brand, in case they plan to buy it. While they have a good working relationship with BMW Motorrad, they don’t have a lot of control over it due to the partnership being a non-equity one. With Norton, things might be different. Plus, TVS will also get access to Norton’s new 650cc platform – something that might help them position these bikes above Royal Enfield’s Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT.
