TVS has a rich heritage and lots of experience when it comes to off-road motorcycle racing in India, though none of the company’s mean off-road machines, based on the iconic Fiero and Apache, have ever made it to the production line. Earlier this year at the Delhi Auto Expo, among other motorcycle concepts, Hero MotoCorp showcased the Passion Pro TR, an off-road motorcycle based on the company’s popular commuter motorcycle, Passion Pro. Now, it seems that the same idea has crept into the minds of the guys at TVS motors, as a similar off-road motorcycle based on the Phoenix 125 has been spotted testing in India.
The single spy shot of the motorcycle being tested in India bears a strong resemblance to the TVS Max125. TVS Motors already sells an off-road version of the Phoenix 125 in Indonesia as ‘Max125’ moniker, which means that the product is already in its production stage.
The front suspension travel of the motorcycle has been increased considerably and the spoke wheel is partially covered by raised plastic fenders. It has been equipped with a petal rotor disc brake at the front while the rear gets a conventional drum brake. We expect it to be powered by the Phoenix 125’s air-cooled single-cylinder 125cc engine which churns out 10bhp and 10.8Nm of torque.
Sales figures of TVS Motors have been seeing a positive growth since the past few months now, thanks to its wide range of scooters and commuter motorcycles. Though there isn’t any word from the company about this off-road motorcycle, the company recently revealed that it was planning to refresh the Apache series and reintroduce the Victor.
TVS motorcycles have been very popular in off-road motorcycling circles and this will be the company’s first attempt at bringing such a product to the Indian market. While the Hero Passion Pro TR was launched in India a while ago, it might take a while for the TVS’ off-road motorcycle to be introduced here. This off-beat motorcycle will try to fuse in some excitement into the boring commuter segment.
