TVS Ntorq 125 Long Term Report 1: Introduction

From the time I saw spec sheet of the TVS NTorq, it was a scooter that I craved to have as a long termer. It ticked all the boxes that I expect of a scooter and more. It’s got a zippy 125cc engine, is spacious for my six foot frame, is shod with big 12 inch rims and it looks snazzy. On top of that it is loaded with features never seen before on a scooter. It has Bluetooth connectivity with turn by turn navigation and an app that that is well detailed. Clearly TVS has thrown the kitchen sink at the Ntorq and on paper it is easily the most desirable 125cc scooter you can buy in the country.

When I first lay my eyes on the Ntorq, apart from the catchy design the thing that struck me the most, were the quality levels. Right from the rich plastics, to the consistency of the panel gaps, to the tactile switchgear, the Ntorq felt right on the money. Then there is the design which might be a bit too shouty for some, but for me it is eye catching and I particularly liked the dynamic profile and the stylish tail lamp. The fighter jet inspired fake afterburners at the back are a bit over the top though.

I was really impressed by the wide under seat luggage space too, but on the down side it isn’t too deep and it can’t swallow a full face helmet. The attention to detail is evident here, where you get a boot light and a USB port to charge your smartphone.

I took the scooter for a brief spin and it felt zippy, comfortable and the exhaust note is surprisingly sporty with it having nice throaty dirt bike like sound. In the coming months I will tell you if the Ntorq is as good as the spec sheet suggests.
