TVS has reported a 22 per cent growth in domestic sales in March 2018 as compared to the corresponding period in 2017. The company sold 2.65 lakh two-wheelers in the last month, retaining the third spot in the Indian two-wheeler industry.
Comparatively, TVS had sold 2.16 lakh two-wheelers in the domestic market in March 2017. Scooter sales recorded a 20 per cent increase, climbing from the 84,173 units in March 2017 to a little over one lakh units in March 2018. The demand for TVS motorcycles grew by 40.5 per cent from 95,671 units to 134,412 units. TVS further shipped 50,599 two-wheelers to its global markets in March 2018 which reflects a 49 per cent growth.
As for the financial year 2017-18, TVS’ two-wheeler sales grew by 17.8 per cent. The company sold 33.67 lakh two-wheelers in the last financial year as compared to the 28.58 lakh units in 2016-17. TVS’ growth has been propelled by the XL 100 and the Jupiter. The Jupiter is also the second largest selling scooter in India, behind the Honda Activa. As for motorcycles, the Apache continues to be TVS’ best-selling model. The numbers are expected to get a further boost thanks to the recently introduced Apache RTR 160 4V.
