- Sold 2.46 lakh two-wheelers in domestic market
- Exports grew by 48.7 per cent
- Marginal growth a result of transition to E-Way Bill
TVS has reported a marginal 2.4 per cent increase in domestic two-wheeler sales in May 2018 as compared to May 2017. With 2.46 lakh two-wheelers sold in the last month, TVS has retained the third spot among the two-wheeler manufacturers in the country.
TVS sold just 5,704 more two-wheelers in the domestic market in May this year, as compared to the corresponding month in 2017. Nevertheless, export numbers experienced a jump of 48.7 per cent, from 34,899 units in May 2017 to 51,904 units in May 2018. This has helped boost the overall sales growth to 8.2 per cent. Overall, the scooter sales grew by 11.9 per cent, while motorcycles recorded a 7.4 per cent growth.
While TVS had been consistently recording over 20 per cent growth in the last few months, the company claims that the transition to E-Way Bill has impacted its sales in May 2018. Nevertheless, the company claims this to be a one-time impact and projects the growth to jump back to the usual number June onwards. The XL100 continues to rule the roost as the most popular model in the line-up. The company will soon be introducing an electric-start variant of the moped, which should further boost the numbers.
