TVS Radeon vs Hero Splendor Plus vs Bajaj Platina: Competition Check

Introduction

TVS launched their new 110cc motorcycle yesterday, the Radeon. This bike has been launched to help TVS gain market share in the lower-end of the 110cc segment. Around 56 per cent of the 110cc sales comes from this segment and TVS didn’t want only Hero MotoCorp and Bajaj to enjoy this high volume business.

Design

The TVS Radeon follows the conservative styling that buyers of this segment have come to expect. But the company has added a bit of excitement to it with a brown seat, golden engine cover and plenty of chrome bits on the bike. The Splendor Plus and the Bajaj Platina have a no-nonsense design. This bare minimum design has made them the go-to-bikes in the rural market.

Engine

The Radeon is the most powerful among the lower end bikes in this segment, thanks to a bigger displacement. The 110cc single-cylinder engine churns out 8.4bhp at 5000rpm and a peak torque of 8.7Nm at 5000rpm. The Splendor Plus with its 100cc motor produces 8.3bhp at 8000rpm and peak torque of 8.05Nm at 5000rpm. The Platina with its 102cc is the least powerful at 7.8bhp at 7500rpm and maximum torque of 8.34Nm at 5500rpm. All three bikes gets a four-speed gearbox.

Cycle Parts

All three bikes are equipped with telescopic suspension at the front and dual-shock setup at the rear. The brakes too, are similar with its drum setup. However, the Radeon gets an additional sync braking system which makes it a better equipped bike. While the Radeon and the Splendor Plus ride on 18-inch wheels, the Platina gets 17-inch ones. The Radeon has the smallest fuel tank, as it holds 10-litres, whereas the Splendor Plus and the Platina hold 11-litres and 11.5-litres respectively.

Price

The TVS Radeon is priced at Rs 48,400 (ex-showroom Delhi) whereas the Hero Splendor Plus retails at Rs 49,400. The Bajaj Platina is the most affordable of the lot at 47,405. All prices are ex-showrom Delhi.
