TVS Motor Company has received a patent for a power propulsion system for a hybrid two-wheeler, which the manufacturer had applied for almost a decade ago. This scooter now comes with a hub motor, apart from the conventional petrol engine.
In 2008, the company had applied for a patent for this hybrid two-wheeler with a different drive setup. TVS Motor has finally received this patent from the Chennai Patent Office. The scooter now gets an electric motor that sends power to the wheels, while the internal combustion engine will charge the batteries and power the motor. This is opposite to what conventional hybrids do. Generally, a hybrid is powered by a regular internal combustion engine and the electric motor just supplies more power.
TVS has been working on bringing in eco-friendly two-wheeler mobility solutions for a long time now. Back in 2010, the company had displayed the TVS Qube concept at the Auto Expo. It was again showcased at the same event in 2012 and 2014 with updates. Since then, there has been no new official information about the scooter. However, in the past, the company had showcased several innovations at previous editions of the Auto Expo. Hopefully, some of them will get to see the light of the day. This new patent might just be the stepping stone for an upcoming hybrid TVS scooter.
