TVS Motors registered an 8.7 per cent drop in two-wheeler sales in December 2016. While December 2015 sales stood at 1.68 lakh units, the company could only sell 1.53 lakh units in the last month.
Though TVS Motors managed to stay afloat in November post the announcement of demonetisation, it couldn’t maintain momentum in the last month. Demand for motorcycles dropped by 18.5 per cent while the scooters experienced a 14.6 per cent de-growth. Despite this, the company has managed to hold on to the third spot in the domestic two-wheeler market.
The muted two-wheeler sales are a combined effect of demonetisation and the general slump in sales during December. Nevertheless this is just a temporary setback and sales are expected to pick up pace over the next few weeks. To counter the slump, companies have been introducing offers and finance schemes along with dealer-level offers like free accessories to attract more customers.
