TVS Motor Company has announced an 11.8 per cent growth in two-wheeler sales in June 2017 as compared to the corresponding period in 2016. The company sold 2.40 lakh two-wheelers in the last month, cementing the third position in the Indian two-wheeler industry.
TVS’ domestic two-wheeler sales grew by 10.4 per cent, jumping from 2.07 lakh units in June 2016 to 2.28 units in June 2017. Of these, the motorcycle range was the biggest contributor with 1.12 lakh units sold. However while this number is 17.4 per cent higher than June 2016 number, scooter sales recorded an even better growth of 33.8 per cent, from 67,590 units in June 2016 to 90,448 units in June 2017. The international markets have also been kind to TVS, as exports increased by 20.8 per cent from 33,224 units to 40,120 units.
TVS has done a good job of getting back on track post the drop in demand due to demonetisation and the industry’s move to BS IV emission norms. The frequent cosmetic upgrades and introduction of new models have helped in this recovery. While the Victor and the Apache have been returning consistent sales numbers, the Jupiter and XL 100 have been the main drivers of the company’s growth.
