TVS Motors has launched the StaR City+ in India for Rs 44,000 (ex-showroom Delhi) at an event in Chennai. This StaR City+ was first showcased at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo and is an updated version of the company’s popular commuter motorcycle, StaR City. The bike has several added features as well as cosmetic changes and will be available with the option of an electric starter.
The cosmetic enhancements on the StaR City+ have been inspired by the TVS Phoenix, with whom it shares the platform. The bike gets honeycomb-textured side panel grills, a crown visor, a new stainless steel muffler guard as well as new rear-view mirrors. In terms of additional features, the bike gets new alloy wheels, coloured five step adjustable shock absorbers, clear lens indicators and a number plate illuminator. It also gets a new instrument cluster with an analogue speedometer and a digital information display, with service reminder and fuel economy indicator.
The StaR City+ is powered by a revised 'Ecothrust' 110cc DLI engine which produces 8.1bhp and 8.1Nm of torque. Mated to a four-speed gearbox, the engine is capable of propelling the bike to a top speed of 90kmph. TVS claims an efficiency of 86kmpl for the StaR City+ in the test cycle.
The StaR City+ is another addition to the horde of hassle-free commuter bikes available in India. High efficiency, competitive pricing and ride comfort is one of the key aspects which decides the success of the bike in this segment, and by the looks of it TVS has been successful in attaining all these with the StaR City+. It will go up against other bikes in the commuter segment like the Mahindra Centuro, Hero Passion XPro and Honda Dream Yuga among others. The StaR City+ will be available in four colour options- celebrity scarlet, oscar black, show stopper blue and titanium grey.
