TVS Motors has confirmed to launch five new two-wheelers in India by December 2014. The company is expecting to gain market share with this new strategy as they have been losing share in the Indian two-wheeler market due to lack of products.
The domestic sales dropped last year due to lack of products in the executive segment. TVS launched the Phoenix 125cc (executive premium motorcycle) to fill in the void and have sold 10,000 units till date. The Chennai based manufacturer will start launching the products from next quarter and will launch two scooters and one motorcycle in this fiscal year.
A scooter has been spied testing many times in Bangalore and Chennai and we expect it to be the first launch. This scooter looks larger than the Wego but will share components with it to make it cost effective. There is also a possibility the company will bring back the ‘Victor’ brand via the upcoming motorcycle. It will be positioned between 100 and 110cc segment and is expected to have the best in class acceleration and fuel economy.
“It is just 11 years since we broke our partnership with Suzuki. We are doing everything to improve our quality and technology. In the last three years the focus has been on improving the quality keeping BMW and Honda as benchmark. These improvements delayed some of our launches," said Srinivasan, chairman and managing director, TVS Motors.
