- New Jupiter CNG variant under development
- Likely to be launched in a few months
- Jupiter 125 could also see an electric variant
It looks like the CNG movement has begun. It has just been a few days since the launch of the Bajaj Freedom – a CNG mass market bike and now there are talks about TVS entering the two-wheeler CNG space too.
According to a report, a project codenamed U740 is under development and is almost at the final stages. It looks like it’s a 125cc CNG scooter being built around the Jupiter 125 platform. As of now, there aren’t much details on this, but the production variant is rumoured to be launched later this year or early 2025.
The TVS Jupiter 125 is a fantastic scooter, and has done quite well for the company. In fact, this scooter was developed keeping in multiple fuel options in mind. Like the fuel tank has been placed under the floorboard for two reasons – to have larger boot space and also to keep the centre of gravity low for better riding dynamics. Through this route, TVS could also develop an electric version of the Jupiter, as now there’s space to install the batteries below the floorboard.
TVS as a company is known to heavily invest in R&D and always likes to experiment with its product line-up. The development work on the CNG models would have started years ago, however, Bajaj beat everyone to it with the Freedom and it seems to have a good head start when it comes to brand recall and value in the world of two-wheeler CNG.
