TVS Motor Company has announced that it will launch a new scooter on September 16.It is believed that the scooter will be called the Jupiter and is likely to be targeted mainly towards male riders.
The upcoming scooter is based on the Wego and is likely to share many components with the scooter to keep costs in check. Mechanically, the scooter is expected to get the same 110cc engine that powers the Wego. This engine churns out 8bhp at 7500 rpm and 8 Nm at 5500 rpm and I mated to V-Matic transmission.
TVS currently has three scooters in their lineup- the Wego, Scooty Streak and the Scooty Pep+. However, all these scooters are mainly targeted towards female riders. With ever increasing male scooter riders, the company wants to make its presence in this segment as well. The company will give masculine design cues to attract male riders and try to make it more appealing as possible.
The scooter has been spied testing in many cities and will feature black alloy wheels, telescopic suspension at the front and single hydraulic shock absorber at the rear. The fuel lid is provided on the back of the scooter making it very convenient for the rider at fuel bunkers. Expect the instrument console to sport only basic features and the upcoming scooter will get the body balance technology and optional disc brake that features on the Wego.
We expect that the scooter will be priced in the region of Rs 48,000 and Rs 53,000 (ex-showroom) and will compete with the market leader, Honda Activa and the Suzuki Access which is a more powerful vehicle but in the same price bracket.
