- TVS discontinues Wego in India
- Could be due to plummeting sales numbers
- Will continue to be exported to other countries
TVS Motor Company has discontinued the Wego in India. The move could be due to the scooter’s plummeting sales numbers in the last six months.
The TVS Wego was introduced in 2010 and has completed a decade in the country . However, the scooter hardly received any major updates in recent years apart from new paint schemes and a few utilitarian features. On the other hand, it was also shadowed by its popular sibling, the TVS Jupiter. Even though the Wego was more affordable than the Jupiter, the latter offered a fresher appeal and quickly became one of the highest selling scooters in India.
Interestingly, a fully camouflaged Wego was spotted in 2018, giving rise to speculations that it would be updated for 2019. However, with no updates in sight, we believe that the manufacturer is likely to reserve those updates for international markets where the Wego will continue to be sold. When asked about the discontinuation of the Wego in India, TVS commented- “TVS Motor Company has the most comprehensive scooter portfolio for consumers in India based on the first and only dual platform Fi technology. In the current environment we want to streamline to enhance dealer profitability, TVS Wego remains in production for select export markets.”
